Where do industrial ecologists work?

An industrial ecologist studies or improves the process by which natural resources are utilized or made into products for human consumption. Their duties are to study how these processes impact the environment or the natural ecosystem. Many spend time in the field collecting data and field mapping, which can either be in the ecosystem or in factories that utilize natural resources. Many people in this position also spend time doing research or in a laboratory. There are job opportunities with environmental advocacy groups, large industrial and manufacturing companies, engineering firms, and the government, as well as with businesses that specialize in other services for the industrial sector.
