Where do geotechnical engineers work?

Geotechnical engineers spend most of their time either in the field studying the environment or in the lab. If you work for a construction company, you may have an office or another facility that you use to study their building designs and ensure they are compatible with the natural features of the site. There are also positions within the public sector. In these jobs, you research various public projects like roads and utility locations to assist in finding better methods of maintenance and installation. You may also work to help them implement new technology into these processes. Once you have developed a reputation and built a strong resume, you can become a construction or engineering consultant and work for yourself.
