What tools do entomologists use?

Career: Entomologist

As an entomologist, you may use various types of nets including aquatic or pond nets, sweep nets, and ariel nets. Each is designed to collect insects in a specific way according to their environment. You may also use a pooter—an aspirator—to trap individual insects with suction. Insects can also be collected by shaking a tree and catching them with a beater tray. Passive collection tools include moth traps, blacklight traps, and tullgren funnels. Observation equipment ranges from simple hand lenses to complex microscopes. Various general laboratory equipment may also be used, depending on the needs of your job.
