What is the difference between a ranch cook and a ranch chef?

A ranch chef is the head of a kitchen at the ranch. In this position, you plan menus, oversee inventory and food service, and manage the kitchen staff. A ranch cook is a member of that kitchen staff. A ranch chef usually has a culinary degree or extensive work experience in restaurants or catering. Employers generally do not require a culinary degree for ranch cook positions, though some cooks may be working towards a degree or preparing to become chefs. A cook may work seasonally or part-time on a ranch.
