What is the difference between a data engineer and a data scientist?

Data engineers are responsible for the systems that acquire, organize, and store data. In this career, your engineering projects may include building or deploying analytics software, but your focus is not on analyzing data. Data scientists focus on analyzing the data and coming up with insights, reports, and results based on their findings. They may use software, systems, and applications that the data engineer develops. Both data engineer and data scientist positions are most common in companies that specialize in “big data.”
