What is the difference between ROTC and JROTC?

ROTC is short for Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, which is a military training program for students who are currently enrolled in a college or university. The Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) is the version of this program geared towards high school students. A student in a JROTC program may learn many of the core duties of life in on of the service branches and participate in group physical exercise, but they do not get the same kind of intensive instruction or training as ROTC candidates, who typically have a contract or agreement to become commissioned officers. Many JROTC participants eventually go on to enlist in one of the service branches.
