What is an inventory controller?

An inventory controller works at nearly any type of business with inventory, from hospitals to factories, to ensure a company or facility is adequately supplied. As an inventory controller, you oversee supply chain management to minimize excess supply. Duties include using batch tracking software or another computer system to ensure quality control, organize stock, maintain records, and count merchandise. The necessary skills for this job entail familiarity with spreadsheets and being good with numbers. Preferred qualifications for this career include an associate or bachelor’s degree, but most employers consider candidates with a high school diploma and experience in retail, wholesale, or logistics.
