An electrical designer’s duties are to design electrical systems for installation in residential, commercial, or industrial locations and ensure that these systems meet health and safety codes. You must also ensure they do not conflict with other systems being installed. Your responsibilities include drawing or drafting sketches, plans, or layouts for the electrical systems in a development and discussing the feasibility of the plans with contractors and electricians. The contractors follow your sketches and blueprints to install the lighting and power systems. An electrical designer also creates plans for constructing high voltage systems, such as equipment for extending transmission lines or connecting a power control panel.
