What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a paid, on-the-job-training opportunity for someone to learn a trade or a skill from experienced tradespeople. In this type of position, duties typically include providing support for professionals with whom you work. Generally, apprentices get more job responsibilities as they progress through their program. During a program, an apprentice may receive classroom training or take certification courses as well as learning on the job. It is common to work towards a professional credential needed to work in your trade independently while completing the training program.
