What is a visual merchandising assistant?

A visual merchandising assistant helps a visual merchandiser design and set up a retail display, such as a department store window. Their job duties are to procure materials, set schedules, help with administrative tasks, and provide creative input. This career requires visual creativity. Other qualifications for this position may be a high school degree and some post-secondary experience with graphic design or fine arts. Other useful skills include budgeting knowledge, previous experience in retail or as an artist’s assistant, and good customer service.
