What is a survey engineer?

A survey engineer measures terrain, often for state or locally funded construction projects. As a survey engineer, you survey the land to take accurate measurements of its shape and contours. Your primary job duties include analyzing this data to ensure that maps of the terrain are accurate. The career requires at least a bachelor’s degree in surveying engineering. Following graduation, you must take an assessment, national proficiency exam, and state licensing exam before you can enter the workforce. Additional qualifications include experience with surveying equipment and computer software, strong analytical skills, and a knowledge of all legal aspects related to surveying. While you may have an office, you frequently work in the field to conduct surveys.
