A speech pathologist, or speech therapist, helps people of all ages with speech and language disorders that result from many different causes, including autism, hearing loss, delays in development, brain injury, stroke, cleft palate, or others. As a speech pathologist, you assess and diagnose speech or language problems, make analytical decisions, create treatment plans, and communicate objectives effectively with both children and adults. During daily therapy sessions, you may help clients relearn sounds and teach techniques to maintain motor functions.
