What is a picture framer?

A picture framer puts artwork, documents, memorabilia, and photos into frames for display and protection purposes. These frames can either be custom-made to fit the object or pre-fabricated to fit a type of product or standard dimensions. As a picture framer, you most often work in art supply retail shops, photography studios, or art galleries. There are also specialty frame stores. Your duties include selecting the proper frame, using carpentry tools to craft a frame to specific dimensions when the proper size is not available, and placing the picture behind a protective layer of glass or plastic within the frame. In retail stores, you may also serve as customer service representative or sales associate. These positions may require point-of-sale skills as well.
