What is a patient escort?

A patient escort works one-on-one with a patient to manage their immediate needs while freeing medical staff to treat others in their care. Your duties include the transport of a patient from one unit or location to another. You may also transfer individuals from a wheelchair to a bed and vice versa. You attend to your charge’s everyday needs from dressing to eating to bathing. You also provide support services, such as changing linens and restocking supplies. Most patient escorts work in nursing facilities, hospitals, and retirement communities. It is typically a full-time position requiring frequent night and weekend hours.
