What is a night watchman?

A night watchman provides security for a building or building complex overnight. Job duties vary depending on the employer and type of building but may include patrolling the building and grounds during the shift.  Others may remain at a desk to answer the phone, perform tasks for visitors or tenants, and handle other customer service-oriented duties. They may also operate alarm systems and monitor CCTV. A night watchman works with the local police department and often contacts them for assistance in handling any security issues.
