A materials analyst uses software systems to plan supply chain and inventory management for a company. As a materials analyst, your job duties include assessing logistics performance, identifying ways to streamline the supply chain and lower shipping and storage costs, and finding new sources for materials. Qualifications for the career typically include a bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, or business administration, as well as relevant work experience. Some employers provide on-the-job training for entry-level candidates. You also need excellent critical thinking, computer, and organizational skills, as well as knowledge of management principles and inventory control systems.
