What is a manual machinist?

Manual machinists create manufactured parts using both manual tools and large equipment. They are trained to use a variety of devices, from drills and saws to more extensive, specialized cutting tools. Though their job title sounds like they only use manual tools, manual machinists today often use computer-operated tools during production. They usually specialize in one or two types of machines, which gives them the expertise to know when their equipment needs to be adjusted or calibrated. Manual machinists must follow the blueprints and specifications down to very minute measurements, so they must have strong attention to detail.
