What is a housing assistant?

A housing assistant works with clients to find living arrangements. As a housing assistant, you may work for a social services agency, a private company, or a college or university, but your primary duties are to help your clients apply for and obtain accommodations within their specifications and budget. Responsibilities may also include interviewing the applicants and inspecting the living arrangements to ensure they are suitable for your clients. Those who work for a government agency may work with low-income residents to apply for government assistance and rent subsidies. Private companies utilize housing assistants to find new or transplanted employees new homes. Housing assistants at post-secondary institutions help handle living arrangements for students living on- or off-campus.
