What is a hearing instrument specialist?

A hearing instrument specialist specializes in fitting patients with the proper hearing aid to help lessen the impacts of hearing loss. As a hearing instrument specialist, your responsibilities include conducting hearing tests, determining which hearing aid best fits the patient’s needs, and training them to use and care for their new medical device. You also ensure the instrument fits properly in the patient’s ear. Your job is to help patients get comfortable with their new hearing instruments and answer question they have about them. In some positions, you may also act as a sales associate, helping the patient find the right product from a specific brand.
