What is a hazmat technician?

HAZMAT technicians are part of HAZMAT teams, also called spill response teams. Responsibilities of a HAZMAT technician include the management, containment, and cleaning of hazardous materials from spills or accidents. In this job, you ensure the safety of other responders and the community in the case of a spill or leak. OSHA has training requirements for all HAZMAT technicians, and some jobs may require additional training to handle particular materials.
