A CAD manager is a design drafting professional that supervises the use of computer-aided design (CAD) software by a design team. A variety of industries use CAD, but you are most likely to find CAD manager positions on a mechanical or industrial engineer team. As a CAD manager, your duties revolve around supervising your staff and approving or rejecting their designs. As you likely have the most experience, you should help your team improve their designs and sharpen their skills. You are also responsible for recruiting new team members. To meet project guidelines, you must train your staff and enforce design standards. A CAD manager must have solid leadership skills, as well as CAD drafting and drawing skills. You do most of your work in an office, but this career may require travel to meet with clients.
