A bioinformatics specialist is a computer scientist who helps researchers collect, store, and document research data about biology. Their main duties are to determine how bioinformatics tools can help with science projects, train people how to use bioinformatics tools, and provide related support to researchers. A principal bioinformatics specialist also builds or manages information storage systems, using statistical tools such as algorithms, data mining, predictive modeling to analyze and interpret the stored data.
