What is Upward Bound?

Career: Upward Bound

Upward Bound is one of several programs that makes up the TRiO initiative, which is a group of eight programs from President Lyndon Johnson’s Higher Education Act of 1965. Upward Bound is designed to help particular high school students prepare for and get into college. It specifically focuses on students from low-income families and students whose parents did not attend college. The program also provides government assistance to students who live in rural areas. The program provides grants to specific regions, and it funds roughly 60,000 students per year.
