Career: Skip Tracing

Skip tracing is a term used when law enforcement cannot find a fugitive or missing person at the place of residence or other familiar locations. Essentially, someone must track, or trace, the person who has "skipped town." The person of interest (POI) is usually responsible for some illegal activities such as avoiding debt collection. Finding the whereabouts of the missing person is done through detective work and analysis of personal documents like credit reports, utility bills, public tax information, job applications, criminal background checks, loyalty cards, and air travel records. A skip tracer gathers and reviews this data until the missing person is found and the issue is resolved.
