What is medical dosimetry?

Career: Medical Dosimetry

Medical dosimetry is a discipline within the field of medical physics and radiation protection. The main purpose of medical dosimetry is to calculate an accurate radiation dose for a patient based on the prescription or treatment plan set out by an oncologist or other cancer specialists. Based on that plan, a medical dosimetrist uses computer software to design the treatment plan that delivers the appropriate dosage of radiation and takes into account how specific anatomical factors may affect the delivery of radiation therapy.
