What is infusion therapy?

Career: Infusion Therapy Nurse

When a patient is unable to take medications orally, doctors may prescribe infusion therapy. Infusion therapy administers medicine and fluids through an intravenous (IV) needle or a catheter. Some diseases treated with infusion therapy include cancer, muscular dystrophy, and gastrointestinal disorders. Certified infusion therapy nurses provide this treatment to patients in hospitals, urgent care centers, and if necessary, at their home.
