What is Hazwoper?

Career: Hazwoper

HAZWOPER stands for Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response. OSHA created this program in 1990 to improve safety during dangerous jobs. The program applies to those working during the beginning stages of chemical release emergencies, stabilization of the situation, and cleanup and removal of chemical contamination. HAZWOPER does not teach response techniques to handle a spill or leak, but it is a process that ensures trained workers can perform such responsibilities safely without risk to their health. It reduces chemical exposure for uncontrolled hazardous waste site operators, emergency responders, and treatment, storage, and disposal facility personnel.
