What is FileMaker?

FileMaker is a cross-platform relational database application designed to integrate databases with a graphical user interface. This application makes it easier to develop and design a database, as well as automate some of the programming needed to get a working system. FileMaker also makes it easier to troubleshoot problems, provide technical support, and offer end user training on the platform. The initial version of this software came out in early 1985 as Nutshell and changed hands several times, passing through Microsoft before ultimately coming under the ownership of Apple, Inc. (which still owns it today through a subsidiary). FileMaker first received its name when it was released on the Macintosh platform and has kept it ever since.
