What is Android?

Android is Google's mobile operating system and is used primarily for smartphones and tablets. Several lesser-known versions of Android also exist and are used in cars, watches, game consoles, personal computers, and other electronics. Android itself is based on a modified version of Linux and uses large amounts of open source software. Android prioritizes touchscreen interfaces, but in recent years, voice commands have become an increasingly important part of its services. The operating system also uses equipment like proximity sensors, gyroscopes, and accelerometers to gain more information and permit users to simulate other actions.
