What does an anesthesiologist assistant do?

Anesthesiologist assistants work with licensed anesthesiologists to provide anesthesia care to surgery patients. Your job starts with pre-surgery tasks including calibrating the anesthesia delivery systems and monitors, taking your patient’s health history, and performing a physical exam to inform the anesthesia care plan. You will collaborate with a licensed anesthesiologist to create your patient’s anesthesia care plan, and work with other members of the anesthesia care team to implement the plan—preparing the patient for surgery, administering anesthesia medicine, and monitoring levels to ensure the patient’s safety during and after surgery.
