What does a travel medical coder do?

As a travel medical coder, your responsibilities are to provide temporary or remote medical coding services to a hospital, outpatient clinic, physician’s office, healthcare company, or insurance provider. Travel medical coders often work for staffing agencies or as freelancers to supplement their regular employment, but sometimes, a healthcare provider has a pool of medical coders that they can send to different areas depending on the need. Your duties are to transcribe physician notes, review medical histories, claims, treatments, and billing information, and ensure that the paperwork and data entry is accurate. Your assignments can last anywhere from a few days to months at a time.
