A remote chief technology officer (CTO) is an executive who oversees the technological framework of an organization from outside of the office. Specific job duties vary, depending on the size of the company and number of staff. Some remote chief technology officers focus on in-house infrastructure and internal data, and implement necessary security measures for employees. They analyze technical issues related to the system design and determine how and when changes need to be made. CTOs also establish the technical strategy of how technology is used at the company. Other remote chief technology officers concentrate on the customer-side of a business and its research and development of new products. While the majority of their tasks are completed remotely, they typically need to attend meetings with staff in the office on a regular basis.
