What does a Radiology Director do?

As a radiology director, you oversee a diagnostic imaging department in a hospital, clinic, or university setting. You direct technicians and staff, assess staffing requirements, coordinate funding and procurement of new equipment, resolve administrative problems, and coordinate quality assurance activities. Radiology directors often schedule each technologist on staff to ensure adequate availability of personnel, coordinate with other medical care providers, and help create a comprehensive care plan for each patient. You may also manage the daily operations of MRI equipment, ultrasound machines, computer-assisted tomography, and other diagnostic equipment. Radiology directors are frequently licensed as radiologic technologists, and you may be asked to operate the equipment when regular staff are unavailable.
