A pre-apprentice lineman is a worker in training to be a journeyman lineman. You assist current journeyman linemen to maintain, repair, and construct various company transmission, power, and distribution lines, typically for underground and overhead equipment. As a pre-apprentice linemen, your duties are to work with rigging, operate hydraulic tools, and help the line crew install new elements. You use an array of tools, such as bucket trucks, line trucks, wire pulling equipment, lifts, and aerial booms. As you work with a journeyman lineman and other crew members, you gain the knowledge and skills to advance to a full lineman apprenticeship, and then eventually to a career as a journeyman lineman.
