What does a performance makeup artist do?

Career: Performance Makeup Artist

As a performance makeup artist, you apply makeup to performers to reflect a certain period, setting, or aesthetic for films, television shows, or theater performances. Your duties and responsibilities include discussing the aesthetic requirements with the director and costume designers, choosing potential options to test out on each character to see which looks work, and then applying the makeup for each performance or day of shooting. When applying makeup to the actors, you tone and clean the performers’ skin before using brushes and other tools to apply makeup. During performances or shooting, you monitor their skin for outbreaks or skin irritation.
