What does a part time welder do?

A part-time welder assembles metal components using welding techniques and equipment. As a part-time welder, you handle specific responsibilities on a construction, manufacturing, or repair project while working fewer than 40 hours per week. Your typical duties in this career include tasks like welding plumbing pipes, metal components in autos and other products, support beams for structures, or industrial pipelines. You weld using techniques like shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), metal inert gas (MIG) welding, or gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). You prepare surfaces with grinders and saws before welding and test your work after you complete it.
