What does a news assistant do?

In newspaper publishing and news broadcasting, a news assistant provides administrative and clerical support to the news editor, editorial staff, or writers. In this career, you collect and circulate interdepartmental communications, draft press releases, create a summary of the day’s events for senior writers or editors, and occasionally, report on breaking stories or assist with research. As a news assistant in TV or radio, you may be responsible for providing reporters with scripts or other content to be presented on the air.
