The job duties of a jeweler apprentice revolve around the repair, setting, and sale of jewelry. In an apprenticeship, you work under the direct supervision of a professional jeweler. The jeweler may train you in repair, setting, or polishing of diamonds, gems, or other precious metals and stones. You may spend most of your time at a jeweler’s bench repairing pieces. In a retail environment, your responsibilities include interacting with customers who are interested in purchasing or repairing jewelry. An apprentice also learns how to use jeweler’s tools, such as lasers, pliers, jewelry molds, and polishers. You can focus on a specialty, such as antique jewelry restoration, diamond cutting, or stone setting.
