What does a HERS Rater do?

As a HERS rater, your duties are to inspect and audit homes according to the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) to determine how energy efficient the house is. In this career, you often work with local building departments to help them obtain proper documentation or CF-3R forms for final approval of their projects. Your responsibilities center around the use of a rating system, which you use to verify the rate at which a building uses energy. HERS raters primarily work with the California Energy Commission to ensure new structures meet compliance standards. There may be similar positions throughout the country.
