What does a fantasy writer do?

As a fantasy writer, your job is to write material for movies, books, comics, TV, or other mediums. The definition of fantasy varies, but the word usually refers to any storyline or fictional area that contains unrealistic material, magic, or elements of mythology. This is sharply distinct from science fiction, which explicitly uses something that at least resembles science and technological development rather than a largely-unexplainable power. Some jobs for fantasy writers involve working with larger teams to create products instead of creating material independently. This may require working with pre-established rules for a setting, such as limitations on what magic or magical characters can do. Many fantasy writers start by becoming independent authors.
