As a procurement specialist, you perform a variety of duties related to getting new suppliers or improving contracts with existing suppliers. You determine the department’s price objectives and analyze market data and internal data about purchasing. You also assist with selecting new sources and choose winning bids for contracts with the company. You spend much of your time discussing price and shipping factors with suppliers and manufacturers. Your tasks may differ depending on where in the supply chain your job is. For example, someone working in a manufacturing company’s procurement office will be seeking raw materials, while someone working in construction may be more involved with assessing labor contracts.
