What does a math teacher do?

Math teachers instruct students in various levels of mathematics, from basic arithmetic to calculus and beyond. They may teach at the elementary school level (grades kindergarten through five), middle school level (grades six through eight), or high school level (grades nine through twelve). Elementary school math teachers are trained in general math concepts in their general education training, while secondary school math teachers who teach in public schools must be certified as a math teacher to teach their specific math levels. Daily duties include lesson planning, facilitating the curriculum, assigning and grading homework, and cultivating proper student behavior. Math teachers also monitor student progress and develop teaching tools to help students who are falling behind and to encourage students who are excelling.
