What are infusion services?

Career: Infusion Nurse

The term "infusion services" describes all types of intravenous administration of medications, fluids, and blood for medical purposes. During infusion therapy, patients are given treatment intravenously through an IV catheter or a port. Infusion therapy is used in a variety of situations where oral medication is not effective or appropriate. Some medicines cannot withstand the acid in the stomach. Some patient's conditions cause them to be unable to tolerate oral treatments. Other diseases, such as cancer, respond better to IV medication.
