What are CPA certifications?

A CPA certification is needed to become a licensed CPA. To obtain it, you must pass an exam called the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination. A state may have a two-tier system which allows you to obtain your certificate when you pass the exam but then requires that you fulfill experience requirements to obtain your license to practice. Certification is the most critical step in becoming a CPA.
