What are UTIs (urinary tract infections)?

UTIs, or Urinary Tract Infections, are infections that occur in any part of the urinary system, including the kidneys, bladder, ureters, or urethra. They are most commonly caused by bacteria, such as E. coli, entering the urinary tract. Symptoms often include a strong urge to urinate, a burning sensation during urination, and cloudy or strong-smelling urine. UTIs are more common in women than men and can usually be treated effectively with antibiotics. Prompt treatment is important to prevent the infection from spreading to the kidneys.
