What is a sedation RN?

Sedation RNs, or Sedation Registered Nurses, are specialized nurses trained to administer and monitor sedation medications during medical or dental procedures. They work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety and comfort before, during, and after sedation. Their responsibilities include pre-sedation assessment, continuous monitoring of vital signs, managing potential complications, and supporting patient recovery. Sedation RNs must have advanced knowledge of pharmacology, patient assessment, and emergency response. They typically hold certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
