What is a quantum computer?

A quantum computer is a type of computer that uses the principles of quantum mechanics to process information. Unlike classical computers, which use bits to represent data as 0s or 1s, quantum computers use quantum bits, or qubits, which can exist in multiple states simultaneously. This allows quantum computers to perform certain complex calculations much faster than traditional computers. They are particularly promising for tasks such as cryptography, optimization, and simulating molecular structures. However, quantum computers are still in the experimental stage and are not yet widely available for general use.
