What is a PMR?

PMR stands for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and a PMR specialist, also known as a physiatrist, is a medical doctor who focuses on enhancing and restoring functional ability and quality of life to people with physical impairments or disabilities. PMRs treat a wide range of conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons. They use nonsurgical methods such as physical therapy, medications, and other treatments to help patients recover from injuries, manage chronic pain, and improve mobility.
