What is a permanent sub?

Permanent Subs, short for Permanent Substitute Teachers, are educators who are hired by a school or district to serve as substitute teachers on a full-time, long-term basis. Unlike traditional substitute teachers, who may work on an as-needed basis, Permanent Subs have a consistent schedule and often fill in for absent teachers across various classrooms throughout the school year. They help provide continuity in instruction and classroom management, ensuring that students' learning is not disrupted when a regular teacher is unavailable. Permanent Subs may also participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities within the school.
