What is a part time Coast Guard?

A Part Time Coast Guard member typically serves in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. These individuals support the Coast Guard’s missions on a part-time basis, usually committing to one weekend a month and two weeks a year for training and duty. They perform many of the same tasks as active-duty members, including maritime safety, search and rescue, and law enforcement. Serving as a reservist allows individuals to balance their civilian careers or education with military service.
